SurfinGuard Pro 5.7

SurfinGuard Pro® protects PC users from Internet threats by proactively monitoring and containing the behavior of downloaded active content. SurfinGuard Pro runs active content (e.g., executables, Windows scripting files, ActiveX and Java) in a protected "sandbox" called the Safe Zone that automatically blocks potentially hostile actions.

Using Finjan's patented First-Strike Security® technology, SurfinGuard Pro protects your PC while allowing you to manage the behavior of active content that is downloaded from the Web. SurfinGuard Pro represents a proactive way to combat unknown Trojan horses, Internet worms and hostile Web pages based on code behavior, rather than static signature recognition. Because SurfinGuard Pro does not rely on database updates, it can defend against new variants, unknown and "yet-to-be-created" attacks.

SafeZone

Highlights

  • Real-time Behavior Monitoring of Active Content: including executables, ActiveX controls, Java applets, Windows Scripting files, Scrap files (.shs) and embedded document objects
  • First-Strike Protection: from unknown and new variants of malicious code without relying on database updates. Prevents attacks from ever occurring before anti-virus tools are needed to react to the damage
  • SmartKill Technology: Power users can choose to have SurfinGuard Pro block only those actions that violate its SafeZone security policy, while allowing the rest of the active program to continue running
  • Personal Surveillance Protection: protects user privacy by blocking audio and video from being sent over a network connection (for PCs that have built-in microphones and video cameras).
  • Violation Logging: A detailed report of violating actions is included with each alert
  • Palm-to-PC Security: automatic monitoring of synch process to protect PCs from attack
  • Drag & Drop Safe Zone Icon: users can manually place executables into the "SafeZone" for behavior monitoring
  • Personal Security Policy: an easy-to-use interface allows users to select a personal security policy that works best for their needs

What's the Threat?
Millions of e-greeting cards, jokes and active content files are passed over the Internet by people every day in the form of executables (.exe files), scripts, ActiveX and Java programs. While the vast majority of these programs are harmless, the widely publicized Nimda, Goner, ILOVEYOU, ExploreZip worm attacks are examples of malicious code that caused tens of millions of dollars in damage. Malicious code attached to harmless-looking e-mails can delete computer files or steal personal data from unsuspecting victims. In addition, high bandwidth lines to the home (e.g., DSL, cable modems) open up a whole new set of threats from hackers who now target these "always on" connections.

Multiple Lines of Defense: Why Anti-virus and Personal Firewalls Aren't Enough
The frequency of Trojan, worm, and "no-click" attacks has increased dramatically and current anti-virus software is reactive by design, not able to detect and terminate new "first-strike" attacks. In addition, hackers routinely use compression utilities to create new variants invisible to anti-virus software. Personal firewalls protect users from programs that try to open a network connection, but cannot prevent a Trojan or worm from deleting files on a victim's PC. A surge of new "no-click" attacks that deliver and launch payloads automatically has surfaced as well, leaving all Internet users at risk. Traditional technologies were never designed to stop such attacks as they often exploit security holes and software flaws on their victims' PCs.

Detailed Alerts Empower Users To Make Clear Decisions
When behavior violations occur, SurfinGuard Pro generates an alert with detailed information on the specific actions in question. SurfinGuard Pro puts control back into your hands - no longer will active content run ungoverned on your PC.
